Major in Philosophy
Students are able to take a Major or a Minor in Philosophy
The Major in Philosophy consists of eight 12.5-point subjects, totalling 100 points:
Level 1 subjects (25 points)
OR
- 800-123 Logic: Language and Information (Sem 1) (University breadth subject)
AND one of:
- 161-108 Philosophical Issues (Sem 1)
- 136-105 Science, Philosophy and History (Sem 2)
- 161-111 Great Ideas in Philosophy (Sem 2)
Level 2/3 subjects (75 points)
- Two core subjects (from Category A list, below),
- Three subjects either from the core or optional list (Categories A or B, below),
- The capstone subject 161-310 What is Philosophy? to be taken in the final academic year of the degree.

Minor in Philosophy
The Minor in Philosophy consists of 75 subject points. The capstone subject is not available in the minor. The structure is the same as that set out above for the Major, except for the following requirement:
Students undertake 50 subject points at Level 2/3, consisting of:
- One core subject (Category A),
- Three subjects either from the core or optional list (Categories A or B).
