UNSW Shuttle Bus

The free COFA (College Of Fine Arts) shuttle bus picks up passengers from inside UNSW Gate 8 (High Street; near the UNSW library) and drops off on UNSW COFA campus (Block F car park; Greens Road). COFA Campus is located near Taylors Square Oxford Street and a 20 minute walk into Sydney CBD. Please refer to the attached shuttle bus timetable and Kensington and COFA campus maps.

The Sydney Bus system is fairly efficient, clean, and safe. Most buses that service UNSW start from Sydney CBD or Bondi Junction (near, but not the same as Bondi Beach).
From Circular Quay (Sydney Harbour Bridge/Sydney Opera House) to UNSW (Anzac Parade entrance) will take around 30mins

The main method of payment is pre-purchased cards or, in off-peak times, cash (it is advisable to use coins or small denomination notes). Be aware that during on-peak times most buses will only take pre-paid passes. My Bus and My Multi passes are available at bus terminals, most newsagents, Post Offices and some shopping centres (Coles, Woolworths).

The pricing system is reflective of how far you wish to travel. Any route is broken up into sections; 1-2, 3-5, 6+. To find out how far your required destination is, please refer to bus maps or maps at most bus stops.

One-way Adult bus tickets (My Bus) are $2.10/$3.50/$4.50. Concessions are available with identification. Return tickets are not available.

Pre-purchase cards come in:
  • Travel-10 - a pass that has ten bus usages of credit. You can buy several different types of Travel-10 depending on how far you want to go. $16.80/$28.00/$36.00
  • My-Multi – a pass which has unlimited bus travel, and limited distance travel on train and ferry, for seven days. $43.00/$51.00/$60.00 (distances are for train and ferry purposes only – all bus travel, regardless of distance, is included)

Very similar to the bus system, Sydney Trains are efficient, clean, and safe. During peak-hours trains can be extremely crowded. Central Station is the hub and can access all different line that spread throughout Sydney. There is no metro system in Sydney.

Aside from My Multi tickets, My Train tickets can only be purchased at a train station.

One-way Adult train tickets (My Train) are :
  • My Train 1 $3.40 (0km-10km),
  • My Train 2 $4.20 (10km-20km),
  • My Train 3 $4.80 (20km-35km),
  • My Train 4 $6.40 (35kn-65km),
  • My Train 5 $8.20 (65km+)
Concessions are available with identification.
Return tickets are also available, and are more economical.

There is no ‘Travel-10’ ticketing system with the Sydney Trains, however the My Multi system applies.

After 11pm, Night Ride Buses replace the Train system. They depart from the nearest bus stop to the Train Station (look for sign posting). Night Ride Buses are not frequent.

There are trains that service country-regional areas of NSW, such as the Blue Mountains and the Central Coast.

There is a train to and from the Domestic/International Airport [Sydney Kingsford-Smith International Airport (SYD)]. These two stations run on a regular train line, however attract an additional Gate Fee. Services are frequent and efficient.

Ferry (please refer to attached map)

The world famous Sydney Ferries are a lovely way to connect with the inner-Western suburbs and Northern Beaches, such as Manly (My Ferry 2). The ferries are not very frequent and leave EXACTLY on time. Circular Quay is the hub.

Aside from My Multi tickets, My Ferry tickets can only be purchased at a ferry wharf.

One-way Adult ferry tickets (My Ferry) are :
  • My Ferry 1 $5.60 (0km-9km),
  • My Ferry 2 $7.00 (9km+)
Concessions are available with identification.
Return tickets are also available, and are more economical.

Sydney Taxis are very expensive. The prices below are normal prices however are not exact. Sydney CBD to UNSW is around $35.

  • Flag Fare: $3.40
  • Distance Rate: Tariff 1: $2.06 per kilometre Between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily
  • Tariff 2: Tariff 1 + 20% Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily
  • Radio Booking fee: $2.30 surcharge in addition to the fare.
  • Waiting time: $53.33 per hour (88.9c per minute - less than 26 KPH)
  • Toll and ferry Charges: The hirer must pay all road, bridge, ferry, tunnel and airport tolls that apply to the journey.
